Lieu-dit (literally named site) is a French wine term denoting a small area of vineyard with an historical or topographical feature. In New Zealand the ‘blocks’ within a specific vineyard are akin to the French lieu-dit, usually being named after a unique distinguishing feature connected with the block within our single vineyard sites that we think will provide interesting perspectives on the characters.
In keeping with this ‘old world’ tradition, here at Rock Ferry we are exploring various vineyard blocks within our single vineyard sites that we think will provide interesting perspectives on the characters that these sites express, hence our range of Block Designate wines.
